Description
ZOVAL 400 MG Tablet – Description
Active Ingredient: Sofosbuvir 400 mg (a direct-acting antiviral agent).
Pharmaceutical Class: Antiviral medicine; specifically a nucleotide analogue inhibitor targeting hepatitis C virus replication.
Mechanism of Action: Sofosbuvir works by interfering with the NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, a key enzyme that the hepatitis C virus (HCV) uses to copy its genetic material. By acting as a chain terminator during viral RNA synthesis, it disrupts the virus’s ability to replicate and spread within the liver.
Primary Use: Treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults. Like other sofosbuvir-based therapies, it is typically used as part of a combination antiviral regimen (often with drugs such as ribavirin, ledipasvir, or velpatasvir) to achieve sustained virologic response (SVR) and reduce viral load.
Dosage Form and Strength: Film-coated tablet, 400 mg. Prescribed orally once daily, with or without food, under the guidance of a qualified physician.
Clinical Considerations:
-
Sofosbuvir is not generally recommended as monotherapy; its effectiveness is optimized in combination with other antivirals depending on the HCV genotype and patient condition.
-
Treatment duration and specific regimens depend on viral genotype, liver health, and prior treatment history.
Common Side Effects: Patients may report gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, decreased appetite), fatigue, headache, or general malaise. More severe reactions can occur and should be evaluated promptly by a healthcare provider.
Prescription Requirement: ZOVAL 400 mg is a prescription-only medication. A qualified clinician should determine its use, dosage, and therapy duration.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light and moisture, out of reach of children.
